I started playing piano when I was 6 years old. I took lessons until I was 16 (and didn't appreciate them at the time).

I love music, I wish I had more time for it, but whatever I come up with, whenever I come up with it, I'll put it here.

Take Me To Your Leader (Mutilated Cattle Mix) (KVR contest entry) - MP3 - 1.8MB - 2 minutes (c) 2007

The theme for March 2007 was 70s Prog Rock. Extremely difficult genre for me to figure out, but I gave it a shot. I went with a sci-fi theme paying homage to the 70s by referencing Star Wars, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Yes, it's a corny, dumb song, but I had a lot of fun doing it.

First song I ever did complex multi-take vocals on, and the whole thing was composited in the pc to pick out the best takes. Very neat way of doing vocal tracks. All the vocal effects are software based, which is pretty amazing to a music geek like me.

Here's the lyrics:

You paralyze me in the night
(lights in the sky)
You probe me oh so right

Take me to your leader
(that's what you said)
Take me to your leader
(your voice in my head)

Take me on a trip to galaxies
(far, far away)
I'll pack my towel and toothbrush
We can leave today

Forever Love (KVR contest entry) - MP3 - 1.8MB - 2 minutes
(c) 2007

This was my first KVR monthly contest entry, and I decided to do it about 3 or 4 days before the contest ended. I was highly rushed, and it showed. Still a lot of fun to do, and a great learning experience, despite the technical difficulties I experienced while making it. I ran out of time before I could record the vocals. With any luck, a future, extended version of this song will truly do it justice. It's got an edgy kind of Middle Eastern feel to it, which was what I was going for...I just wish I'd done a better job of mixing it. I lost a lot of details doing track bounces between the PC and the multi-tracker, due to some software problems. In my head, this was a REALLY cool song.

Get Me Through Today - MP3 - 8.4MB - approx 7 minutes
(c) 1996 - 2007

This song is (apparently) my tribute to the perpetual work in progress. Originally written for piano, it begged for lyrics, so I wrote lyrics. Then it wanted more, but I put it aside for years and years. Last year, I finally dusted it off and started putting it together the way I always heard it in my head.

It takes forever to do it that way.

Even though it's not finished (and may never be), I like this song, probably because I hear what it SHOULD sound like, and not what it actually sounds like.

Old Songs

Fear - MP3 - 3.6MB - 3 minutes 52 seconds
(c) 1996

This song is old, and the recording sounds like crap, but this is still one of my favorite songs. The sounds and the atmosphere just seem so cool to me.

This is a true "old school" track, equipment wise. The bass guitar, drums, and pads were sequenced in Music Studio on an Atari 520ST, the guitar was a preset from a guitar card I had for a Roland U-110. The bass was from a Roland D-110, I think, as was the pad. The breaking glass was a sample from a Roland S-330.

I should totally get off my butt and try to recreate some of this with the stuff I have today, but don't hold your breath.
